NEW DELHI: As the seconds ran out, Qader Khan of Pakistan turned from being a pad to a punching bag to a done deal on Wednesday.
Khan's disintegration was so rapid that it was hard to imagine that just nine minutes before the bout began, the 20-year-old Khan had made his entrance - oblivious to loud hooting - with a swagger and a smile on his lips.

The gliding and the sliding stopped when Akhil landed a full-shouldered left into the Pakistani's temple. The smile lost its radiance when Khan was pushed to the corner in the first round and was given two hard body blows followed in quick succession by three to the face.
Khan's smile came back in the second round or so you thought - the face was stretched in grimace as he again found himself in the corner and at the receiving end of 17 breathless, non-stop barrage of stinging punches.
While Akhil (29) closed the age gap with his younger opposition at the Talkatora stadium with his stellar display which sent the blood rushing to the head. Khan, on the other hand, walked out having advanced in age a bit in a span of three stormy rounds.
"A victory always feels good no matter how it comes. No one questions your style after your victory. I don't care about the nationality of the boxer. When you step into the ring, you don't notice whether the opponent is a Pakistani or an Englishman. You go there with only one agenda: to beat the other guy. That's what I was trying to do," said Akhil, who won the bout 7-0.

Akhil was pleased that he scored on punches other than just the straight ones which has become the norm nowadays and due to which he feels he lost the bout against Iain Weaver. "I got some scores in upper-cuts and body shots unlike last time in Commonwealth Boxing Championships in March."
In other bouts of the day, Amandeep Singh (49kg) and Suranjoy 'Chhota Tyson' Singh (52kg) both returned triumphant. While Amandeep dispatched his Rwanda opponent 4-0, Suranjoy outplayed his Ghana opponent 15-4 in a bout that saw furious, frantic action.
